A Tooth Compromised by Dental Attrition Might Need to Be Restored by a Crown

Posted .

Dental attrition occurs when minor alignment issues go unaddressed. This can allow two or more teeth to rub together at an unnatural angle, gradually wearing down the tooth enamel in that area. With early detection and treatment Dr. Paul Greco might be able to repair the damage by applying a filling at their Hartsdale, New York clinic.

If the area of attrition is located on a critical surface of the tooth, or additional tooth decay threatens the tooth enamel, Dr. Paul Greco will likely recommend restoring the tooth with a crown.

After examining the tooth, Dr. Paul Greco will numb the area with an injection of Novocain. Then Dr. Paul Greco will form an abutment by removing the entire tooth enamel layer. This leaves behind a core abutment of healthy dentin protecting the pulp and root of the tooth.

Dr. Paul Greco will then create a detailed impression of the area. It will be sent to a dental lab, where the crown will be created. In the interim, a temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it

A member of Dr. Paul Greco’s staff will call you in for a brief follow up appointment when the crown is ready. It will be cemented in place with a very strong dental adhesive

If you live in the Hartsdale, New York area and you have a tooth suffering from dental attrition, you should call 914-205-3750 to have it examined and treated by Dr. Paul Greco.
